Am I the only one here who doesn't like poetry?
-I know this might sound pretty blunt, but poetry is actually one of the things I just...can't stand. Not that poetry in itself is bad, it's just that ANYONE can pick up a pencil, write something, and everyone will think it's great. One reason for this, I think, is that A LOT of people write about "emotional" things, when they write poetry. And everyone is afraid that if they insult someone's "poems" they'll get all worked up and start to blubber about it or something.
There are so many people at my school who all "write". And I just...can't stand it. It all sounds the same. There are VERY FEW exceptions to this. Most everyone tries to rhyme, when it isn't necessary. Poetry shouldn't always rhyme, that's just the way it is. Poetry is supposed to have a certain structure, a certain syllable (sp?) pattern/amount per line. There's actually a lot of things that need to be considered and thought through to write something I'd actually consider "poetry". Now granted, just because someone might follow some guidelines, so to speak, this doesn't mean I'll like their poem any more, just that it will, in a sense, be better. Too many people---Most everyone at my school/everywhere else in their teenage years---just pick up a pencil, write down things so that it's almost more just speaking, and try and make it rhyme. Often this results in a failed poem---in my eyes at least. There are people at my school who will write how their latest 2-week boyfriend broke up with them (though not directly), then put it in the paper, thinking that it's very deep and emotional. That it really means something and is special to them. This REALLY REALLY makes me mad. I can't stand it when people---(mostly of the female gender)---make problems out to be much larger than they really are. And this happens a lot. A girl in class a week ago, stated that "Kids today have it much harder than our parents did. We have homework, and girls are worried about what they look like, society is making girls have to look a certain way to be accepted. And we also have relationships to deal with."
When I heard this statement I literally swore out loud. Somethin' like "f***in' hell". Followed by a raise of my hand to protest to such nonsense.
Relationships? At the age of say 15? It's only high school for christ's sake. Chances are you won't know anyone from the school in a few years when you leave anyway. Why the hell would you need a relationship? A persons life can change in an instant, every single thing about the way a person thinks can be flipped completely around---in an instant. What makes people think any friends they have now...what makes them think they'll matter in say---15 years? If you honestly think that relationships at this age, are a major emotional stress. I consider this...what can I say without offending anyone...well I think it's pretty sad. Why are people so concerned about looks? It's you that matters, if you're happy fine, don't care what other people think. If you don't like the way you look. -Do something about it, don't criticize yourself and whine about it.
I get absolutely furious when I hear people complaining about little things. Everyone forgets that no matter how hard they have it, there is ALWAYS someone in the world who has it worse than them.
What was I talking about originally? Poetry?
I don't very much like it. (No offense to any writers their might be here.)
